Traveling means different things to different people. For me, traveling makes me feel myself. I feel lite, refreshed and energized and most important of all traveling makes me discover something new about myself. We cannot stick on to one specific definition of travel. Also traveling has no age limits. Yes! And there are many people proving the same to the world. Here is an account of people who travel and reconnect with nature even in their old age. We are in a social media world and I know there are so many travel blogger couples and travel influencers in India whom you all know about. But what makes this blog more interesting is that it is going to throw light on the senior couple travelers. Hope you enjoy the read!
This couple stands first on my list because the travel entries of this couple have left me awestruck. They have been traveling all around the world for the past 45 years. Yogeshwar (72) and Sushma (68) an elderly couple are giving couple goals for young couples. It’s no exaggeration to say that their love for each other has been fueled by their common interest - traveling! The couple held each other’s hand through an arranged marriage. Their love for traveling has been their connecting point in their starting stages. From then on they have gone on so many journeys. Yogeshwar has also told in an interview that his trips after retirement helped him in boosting his confidence. The couple has also recreated the Bollywood romantic scenes from their favorite retro movies when they visited foreign. Alongside youngsters, the duo have gone on trips and had made the young tribe wish for the kind of love they have.
By now you would be trying to find from which movie I have taken this dialogue. No, this isn’t a dialogue from any romantic movie. These are the exact words said by Mohanlal Chauhan about his wife Leelaben in an interview with ‘The Better India.’ 78 years old Mohanlal Chauhan, after his voluntary retirement in 2015, started going on solo trips. But the feeling of missing his wife made him take her along with him. The couple has traveled over 30000 km, in their 1974 Royal Enfield with a sidecar attached for Leelaben. Mohanlal has shared about traveling that it has made him feel like he was having a ‘new lease on life
This is what K R Vijayan and Mohana had to hear to fly all around the world. Mohana who thought she would never cross Kochi due to financial constraints has visited so many countries across the world. For Mohana, her grandmother’s words have come true. As if she has envisioned Mohana’s future, her grandmother has once told her she would travel the world with her husband. With a disinterest to hear other people’s travel encounters, K R Vijayan started to travel with his wife to encounter everything with his own eyes. With their savings and sponsorships, the duo has traveled to 26 countries. Even a documentary was released based on this globetrotting couple. Sadly, K R Vijayan passed away in 2019.
Not just senior couples, there are many seniors going on solo trips and doing so many adventurous sports during the travel. Dr. Sudha Mahalingam, Mehar Moos, Subha Suryanarayan, and her son Venkatesh, the couple Robin and Amrita Nakai along with their friend Usha Hood are some of the senior travelers in India with inspiring travel accounts. All these senior travelers prove to us one thing in common. It is, ‘Age is just a number. If you have the passion and the spirit to follow what your heart seeks, you will always find a way.
